About Elise
Welcome, I’m Elise.
I live in Brisbane, Australia with my husband and our three daughters.
I started writing when I was a kid because I loved stories and the emotions they made me feel. It only took me 49 years to find the story I really wanted to tell.
A lot of the personalities you’ll find on these pages can also be found in my real life. Write what you know, after all.
I write fantasy romance filled with ancient magic, fierce women, found family, multiple love interests and enough emotional damage to keep everyone in therapy.
Writing is a very personal process for me. Before I write my characters’ feelings, I stop and feel them first. I let the emotion pass through me, then I write about it. If a scene makes me laugh, cry, love or even hate a character while I’m writing it, then I’ve done my job.
When I’m not writing, I’ll be off painting, taking photographs, hanging out with my hubby and kids, or thinking about my books when I should absolutely be doing something else. Usually sleeping.
I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember. I’m a professional portrait photographer, an abstract artist, and now an author. Apparently my brain looked at all those hobbies and decided they weren’t enough, so it built an entire fantasy world and populated it with characters who regularly ignore my plans.
Here you’ll find book updates, character introductions, sneak peeks, artwork, behind the scenes chaos, and probably evidence that I’m only a few steps away from becoming completely convinced my fictional characters are real.
You can also find me on social media where I share writing updates, snippets from my manuscripts, character banter, bookish content, and plenty of behind the scenes chaos from the world of my books. Make sure you check out my “When the Characters Escape the Book” posts. Apparently giving fictional people access to social media was a terrible idea, but we’re all committed to the bit now. Hopefully you’ll get a good laugh out of it.
